Spend your semester living and learning in the birthplace of the Renaissance! Designed for students from all academic backgrounds, the Semester in Florence program is the perfect chance to earn credits toward your degree while immersing yourself in Italian culture.
When class is in session, you'll choose from a unique mix of flexible and diverse courses (in English or Italian) at CIEE Florence and CIEE's renowned partner institution, Florence University of the Arts (FUA). You may also enroll in courses with a local flavor, like language, photography, cuisine, or sustainability initiatives.
Outside the classroom, you'll have every opportunity to participate actively in the Italian community. Immerse yourself in the local culture with optional credit-bearing internships, volunteering opportunities, or language programs. Don't stop there; round out your study abroad adventure by participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities and off-the-beaten-path trips organized by CIEE to appreciate Florence’s impressive cultural attractions and landmarks.

The Pellice Valley has been a place of resilience, first to the religious persecution of the Waldensians and then in opposition to Nazi-fascism during the second world war.
This troubled history over the centuries has created it’s current reputation as “Hospitality Village”.
In such a small community there are more than 40 different ethnicities and it’s one of the few mountain municipalities in Italy that is attracting new residents for its quality of life and the beauty of its environment.
Nowadays, in particular thanks to the Waldensians community, that made Torre Pellice their home, a profound culture of kindness and solidarity is at the root of different social projects helping and assisting the vulnerable and people in need.
In accordance with specific learning outcomes, American university students would attend and benefit from a unique anpassad experiential learning program strongly linked to local heritage and resources, in beställning to experience an authentic full fördjupning with Italian culture, while at the same time engaging in a cultural exchange with the local community. • Processing times to obtain a new passport or to renew an existing one are taking up to 14 weeks. Learn more here. Florence is the ideal setting to spend a semester studying in one of the most historic, cultural and beautiful cities in the world. The city is filled with cobblestone streets, open-air markets, unique food experiences, artistic masterpieces, stunning architecture. This program is designed for students of all majors interested in: Italian language, culture, studio arts, art history, cinema, psychology, urban studies and more. You will take credits on this semester long program. No previous Italian experience is necessary, but you are required to take an Italian language course on this program. Florence is the ideal location to begin your Italian language studies and then come back to Pitt to continue. Selected part-time English language internships are also available depending on your desired field. The city of Florence and hills of Tuscany becomes your classroom during this program.
